I have been asked what my opinion is about the piebald yorkies. I actually have not bred a whole lot of them to really say a whole lot about them. I will say that I do think most of them are pure bred Yorkies. I say most --because I truely believe that some A.K.C. Yorkies are crossed with other breeds. There have been partis coming out of most of the show -lines and I believe they are pure bred. what about the others? I have been asked. This is my opinion on the subject. I believe that before D.N.A. was available that puppy mills and some so called back-yard breeders had accidental matings of ---say yorkies with onother breed. Quite a few breeders in the 60's and 70's bred more than one toy breed. I am quite sure that these breeds got together by accident and went un noticed by the breeders. I have seen A.k.C. yorkies that looked like other breeds that were being registered as full A.K.C. yorkies!--- Remember ---no D.N.A. So who's to know?? These pups went on to adulthood to be bred back into the yorkie lines. and I am sure even some top show kennels had accidents that they were not awhere of. Say you had a nice yorkie bitch, and wanted to breed her to a top champion--so you ship her to a show kennel to be bred to this famous Champion--- How would you really know what dog was being bred to your bitch??? Something to ponder eh? So with one wrong mating taking place --that would throw the whole pedigree off! That is why some breeders back then insisted on witnessing a mating!! and who can blame them. Also, who is to say that a mixed mating did not take place--that is two studs involved! so now this would really be a mess! and suppose the breeder chose a really nice pup from this mixed mating and went on to show this dog? ----and this dog was finished in the ring! So will the real dad please stand up!. Show breeders lament that out piebald yorkies are after all not real yorkies! Well, are theirs?? No one for sure can say any pedigree is accurate! One dog that is misrepresented can throw the pedigree off for generations! Kind of like the Earth being pushed a few degrees off it's axes. Maybe not a great analogy, but you get the drift! So what dogs pedigree is accurate? We just can not say for sure---always that doubt! Now, we as breeders are certain the integrity of the pedigree stays pure with the advent of D.N.A. testing! A strong step in the right direction!

The problem with inexperienced breeders is,that they expect perfection when they buy a pup/dog. To reiterate, every dog has"genetic junk" whether it is in-bred or not. The trick is to keep the "junk" hidden. How do we keep the junk hidden? by out-crossing! In-breeding brings the Junk to the for-front,and by simply not breeding a dog because of a fault is not the way to go. This futher reduces the "gene pool" so now by getting rid of all the "junk dogs ,one would have nothing to breed to. So the solution lies in breeding dogs with faults to dogs that do not have the same fault. I said do not display that same fault, because we do not know if the dog we use has this hidden fault,so we take a gamble it does not have the same fault. Breeding animals with faults also depends on the degree of the fault. For example, if a dog has a slight underbite, and I said slight ---not a deformed jaw. One would pick a dog with a perfect scissors to breed to, in the hopes that this will correct the bite. One cannot discard a beautiful dog because of a single fault. The only exception to this rule would be temperment. A dog must have a good temperment to be used in a breeding program. Liver-shunt is another. No dog is perfect, and if it does have serious defects the dog should be euthanized. Don't give your crap for someone else to deal with! Most problems can be corrected by dudicious breeding practices. Years ago when I was actively showing St Bernards a lady approached me wanting my opinion on whether she could show her dog or not. The dog was gorgeous! typy, massive, correct head, level top-line and superb angulation in the rear. I pushed down on his rear with all my strength, testing his hips for any weakness. His gaits were true and straight, with an amazing amount of animation for a Saint. He was a breeders dream, correct in every way,and not crippled with displasia like most Saints at the time. There was one thing wrong with him however,he lacked the symetrical mask known for the St Bernard. His right eye had the marking ,his left eye did not! Much like some of the parti dogs we now see. He was classified as a "mis-mark" and could never finish! What a pity that this otherwise almost perfect dog was denied his place in history because of a lack of color on his face. He would have contributed the one thing that the breed lacked over all----great hips!! So a great dog was lost because of a mis-mark. He could have stamped his genes on many Saint bitches of the day to improve their hips!So I say again to all breeders, take your lemons, take a good look at their faults---shave them down if you have to--- see the faults and then breed them to a dog that does not have this fault! Change your stud dogs frequently--- this is important to keep the junk at bay! Don't keep breeding the same stud to the same dog. See what clicks! Buy another stud, and keep the gene pool flowing! My opinion Margery,Acorn manor yorkies.

The hundreds of Parti yorkies that are bred today originated from about 6 dogs. So that would mean a lot of close breeding to get more of them. Close breeding brings out genetic faults. It is up to the buyers/breeders to outcross their dogs to correct all the genetic junk! There is simply no other way to breed dogs to get more of a desired color, but to in-breed. Surely the breeders that purchased their original stock knew this! In my opinion any dedicated breeder that trashes another breeder,or their dogs should not be breeding dogs in the first place. You should be sucking up your losses, and move on to improve the breed, and doing a lot of out-crossing!. To many breeders---and not new comers I might add,do not know enough about genetics and should not be breeding dogs. The purpose of a good breeder is to improve the next generation of pups over the first. The original breeders of any rare animal must in-breed to get numbers. That is a plain simple fact!! and with close in-breeding comes all the genetic juNk! Every dog carries genetic junk, and getting this junk out takes a lifetime of diligent breeding. So I say take your genetic lemons, and make lemonaide,by diligent out-crossing and stop all the whining!and name calling! Where do you think all these parti dogs came from ----trees?? no from in-breeding! My opinion, Margery Acorn manor Yorkies

After 4 years …and after buying 4 yorkies with the luxated patellas..and other Health issues, I decided to give the Parti yorkies a try… their Health is just as bad.. I am finding after much research on the Yorkies that the Breeders are not Health Testing the Parents and or the puppies before they go to their new homes….we buy them only to find out..And after the 72 health guarantee is over and most breeders do not Guarantee against Patellas cuz it is not Life Threatening.. Not Life Threatening?? MY FOOT!!! they can’t walk.. but is is us the Buyers.. that supposedly caused the bad Patellas…. All i can say is Watch Out and Take your Vet with YOU Personally to buy your Next Pup…matter of fact take 2 Vets! google them- the breeders names, get as many references as you can …some websites let the breeders delete bad Reviews yal.. are you kidding me ?if you find one honest Breeder you are dang Lucky!!!There is a very big Breeder of Partis who is sought after over her Gorgeous Partis…that they are finding out has many many Health problems now……..SO BEWARE!!!!!
I wonder who the lines are you got ????? Do you know please share with us.
I may already know the answer to my own question.
